Experiencing The Nationals

Courtesy of Motocross Journal - June 1999 Issue

Don't forget the sunscreen. Fans leaving a National look like the invasion of the lobster people.
Pack an umbrella. If it rains, you'll be glad you did, and you'll make new friends.
Bring a sandwich and Kool-Aid. You will miss half the second moto waiting in line for food at most of the Nationals. Don't miss the action, make a PB&J the night before.
Bring binoculars. The new styles are tiny and weigh nothing. A must-have accessory for following the action.
Bring a stopwatch. Who is fit and who is faking? Who is the fastest rider in practice? How long has the announcer babbled without saying anything important? A stopwatch will end any argument.
Bring a transistor radio. Moto Radio 91.7 FM will be broadcasting live at the Nationals. They will have pre-and post-race programming as well as the race announcer during the day. A great concept that we hope will catch on in a big way.
Bring a lawn chair. All the Nationals (except Troy) will have hills perfect for spectating. Be comfortable.
Don't use the chair all day. Just 'cause you have a comfortable seat doesn't mean you shouldn't leave it. The best way to take in a National is to hang over the fence and cheer on the riders. Move around.
Pick up a race program, they are not the race programs of the past, this years program has great stories on all the riders, and extensive interviews with a select few.
Wear a straw lifeguard hat. The big-rimed hat will keep harmful rays and sprays off your face and neck.
Wear hiking shoes. Be ready for a hike from the parking area to the track. Then be ready to walk the track. The Nationals are not for couch potatoes.
Have a tailgate party. Most folks only go to one or two Nationals a season, so make a day of it. Plan to get there early and leave late. Bring the Sunday paper, the latest Motocross Journal and Motocross Action and enough food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you take your time, you miss the headache of traffic jams.
You can always tell the hardcore fans because they are covered with dirt by the end of the day. Have a towel and water so you can clean off before heading home.
Buy your advance tickets early and save $5.00 per ticket. Just print out our on-line form and mail it in.
The most important thing is to have fun. So we will see you at the nationals for an exciting and fun filled day.
